Bluetooth Eavesdropping -- easier than you think.

This video is fairly technical in nature, but it's an excellent example of how easy it is to eavesdrop on people using Bluetooth headsets.

Hey, Mac users!

The SANS Internet Storm Center is looking for Mac OS X security tips. If you have tips (or would like tips) check today's entry throughout the day for updates.

The IT Security Office's very own Rob Dewhirst has developed a very easy to use checklist for Mac users who want to do some very basic system hardening. You can download it here. (Acrobat Reader required)

Check it out, we made the Kansan!

Last night's Saving Face on Facebook session got some nice coverage in the University Daily Kansan. We had over 30 students in attendance and the feedback has been really positive! If you'd like to attend a session, we've got some fun events coming up:

KU Credit Union Shred Fest!

The KU Credit Union is hosting a "Shred Fest" at both of their Lawrence locations on Thursday, October 18th from 10am to noon. If you have a big pile of sensitive documents at home that you'd like to shred, haul them on down to either one of the KU Credit Unions (3400 W. 6th Street or 2221 W. 31st Street) and watch them turn into teeny tiny pieces.

The anatomy of a phish

Mmmmm. Velveeta.

Editor's note: Links from phishing messages have been broken, changed, and otherwise obfuscated to protect the click-happy.

Phish: an American rock band noted for their extended jam sessions and musical improvisation. Formed at the University of Vermont* in 1983, the band's four members performed together for the better part of 21 years until their breakup in August 2004.

Be SeKUre: The Wallpaper

No, this wallpaper won't magically make your computer immune to viruses, prevent you from ever being phished, or fetch you a cup of coffee. It will, however, remind you to visit the blog regularly and look pretty nifty to boot. Check out our desktop wallpapers!
